THINGS TO DO IN WINTER: Hike To Mala Osojnica For The Best View Of Lake Bled
While pretty much any spot around Lake Bled offers amazing views to photograph, but if you want to get the picture postcard shot of Lake Bled, with both the island church and the castle all backed by the majestic peaks of the Slovenian Alps, you will have to make a little effort and hike to the Mala Osojnica viewpoint.
The hike to the Mala Osojnica viewpoint is one of the best things to do in Bled. At the top is a great viewing point for photography, and you get a fantastic view of Lake Bled, the island church, and of the hilltop castle. Starting just beside the little Lake Bled’s beach at Zaka, just opposite the boat rental house, it takes about 40 minutes to get to the top.
Aerial View Of Lake Zavrsnica
Lake Zavrsnica is only a pleasant 10 minute walk from our accommodation Apartments Fine Stay. This is how it looks from the bird’s perspective in the winter months.

Look at this chamois spotted behind our accommodation Apartments Fine Stay
Look at this chamois spotted behind our accommodation Apartments Fine Stay by our guest from Germany, Rainer Frindte!
The chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra) is an agile goat-antelope with short hooked horns, found across the mountain ranges in France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Slovenia. They have warm reddish coats in the summer, grey coats in the winter, and thin, black, horns. They are incredibly agile on rocky, uneven terrain thanks to the elastic pads on their hooves. They have been recorded reaching speeds up to 50 km/h and jumping 6 meters vertically into the air!

Photo Gallery: A trip to the Krnica Valley in Winter
Krnica is a beautiful 6 km long mountain valley south of the village of Kranjska Gora. The valley begins at Lake Jasna and runs along the Pisnica stream in the direction of Mt. Razor, which is one of the highest peaks in the Julian Alps. Krnica Valley is only a quick 35 minute drive from Bled, so it is a lovely destination for a day trip.
Our guest, Evgenii Danilov, who is currently staying with us in our accommodation Apartments Fine Stay, has sent us these beautiful photos from his recent trip to the Krnica Valley. Thank you so much Evgenii!

A trip to the alpine valley of Krnica is one of the most beautiful, easier hikes in the vicinity of Kranjska Gora, also suitable for families with children.

Lake Jasna is a great starting points for the Krnica Valley hike.

Krnica Valley begins at Lake Jasna and runs along the Pisnica stream in the direction of Mt. Razor, which is one of the highest peaks in the Julian Alps.

From the Krnica Valley there are amazing views on Mt Prisojnik (also Prisank) and Mt Razor – two of the highest peaks of the Julian Alps.

A forest path along the Pisnica stream leads through the valley.

Locals know that Krnica is enchanting in all seasons, it is beautiful just after the first fluffy snowfall, as well as in the warmer months.

Those who do not like to go up and down the same path, can for example start at Lake Jasna, continue along the Pisnica stream to the Koca V Krnici mountain hut, and on the way back turn left in the direction of Mihov Dom, from where they return to Lake Jasna along Vrsiska cesta road, direction Kranjska Gora.

The valley is about 6 kilometers long.

If you visit Krnica Valley in the winter, be sure to dress warmly.

You can park right next to Lake Jasna, there are paid and free parking spaces, but they fill up quickly on sunny weekends. It is possible to park a little further along the road leading to the Vrsic mountain pass, just before the bridge over the Pisnica Stream.
