Hiking

Take a hike to the mountains as the vicinity offers plenty of mountains to choose from, both in the Julian Alps and in the Karavanke mountain range.

Below are a few hiking recommendations for hiking lovers while in the Bled area of Slovenia!

Ojstrica, Velika Osojnica and Mala Osojnica
You must have seen many photos on the web of the picture-perfect lake which has a lovely island in the middle with a church on it. These photographs were probably taken from one of the Lake Bled viewpoints. Ojstrica, Velika Osojnica and Mala Osojnica are all viewpoints offering breathtaking views to the lake and its surroundings.

Triglav Lakes Valley
The hike to the Triglav Lakes Valley, arguably the most picturesque mountain valley in the Slovenian Alps named for the country’s highest peak and the national park in which it sits, is among the most popular in Slovenia. The valley is named for a system of lakes that sit in this high mountain valley (although there are ten and not seven lakes in the valley). The lodge that serves as the destination for this hike rests at the valley’s southern edge at the Double Lake in the heart of the Julian Alps and Triglav National Park.

Vrsic Pass to Slemenova Spica
This is a lovely day hike to do in the Slovenian Alps. You start at the Vrsic Mountain Pass, one of the highest roads in the country, and hike to the Slemenova Spica summit. Along the way, you get to walk through quiet, flower-filled valleys and enjoy spectacular views of the Julian Alps. On a nice sunny day, you are also treated with wonderful views out to Austria and Italy. This hike is short, relatively easy, and filled with stunning views, so it’s great for active families and adventurous travelers. It’s a great way to get a taste of hiking in Triglav National Park without needing special equipment or doing a full day hike. If you are visiting this part of Slovenia, you no doubt will be driving to the top of the Vrsic Pass, so why not throw a short hike into the mix and turn a nice day into a spectacular day?

Mount Stol
Mt. Stol is the highest mountain of the 120 kilometers long Karawanke mountain range which is a section of the easternmost part of the Alps. There are many trails leading to the peak. We recommend to take the trail that starts at the Valvasor Hut. This trail is not technically challenging but it does require decent physical preparedness as it over the distance of 11 kilometers ascends/descends for more than 1300 meters. If the trail is covered with snow (typically in winter and early spring), you will also need additional equipment such as crampons, ice axes and gaiters to execute this hike safely.

Everything is well signposted.
