Lake Worthersee (Austria)

Sometimes called the Caribbean of the Alps, Worthersee is one of the larger lakes in Europe with a number of lovely small villages surrounding the lake itself. The lake is in a beautiful setting, surrounded by mountain peaks and lush greenery and it has all the attractions you would expect – swimming, boating, sunbathing, walking, etc. There are specific areas for one to enjoy picnics, swim, rent a boat or enjoy some water fun. Generally, find an area with a Strandbad sign which indicates swimming. Usually this is an area designated and designed for swimming, sunbathing etc. The lake is also ideal for families – it’s clean and has a lot of ‘touristy’ activities to keep the kids happy. There are some great restaurants and bars around the lake.

Lake Worthersee is located just across the Austrian border, only 45-50 minutes drive from Apartments Fine Stay Zavrsnica and Apartments Fine Stay Bled (if you go through the Karawanken Tunnel). Those who like a more winding road with nice views and want to avoid the Karawanken Tunnel toll (€7) can use the Loibl Pass instead (71 km, about 1 hour 5 minutes).
