Pericnik Waterfall

Pericnik Waterfall is a magnificent waterfall located in the beautiful Vrata valley, about half an hour drive from Bled. The road from the village of Mojstrana is slightly uphill, but not too difficult. It follows a small river called Triglavska Bistrica, which is picturesque. The short walk up to the Pericnik falls is steep but fun and takes less than 10 minutes. The waterfall is spectacular (52 meters drop). You can walk behind it and climb right down to the pool beneath it too (as long as you don’t mind being sprayed with mist). In winter, the waterfall turns into innumerable icicles and floes in delicate shades of blue and green.

Note: Pericnik Waterfall actually falls down in two steps and consists of two waterfalls: the upper fall is 16 meters high and the lower fall 52 meters. The lower part is the most interesting part.

The unique thing about the Pericnik is that you can walk behind the waterfall, and if you don’t mind being sprayed with mist, you can descend right down to the pool at its base. (photo: Jost Gantar / slovenia.info)

You should not miss the beautiful waterfall of Pericnik – definitively a must see in Slovenia and one of the best falls in the country. Such an amazing drop! (photo: Matjaž Vidmar / slovenia.info)

You can walk down to the pool level, but be ready to take a shower! And don’t forget to protect your camera, it’s like taking a mist shower. (photo: Ales Zdesar / slovenia.info)

There are actually two Pericnik waterfalls, this is the 16-metre-high Upper Pericnik fall. (photo: Tomo Jesenicnik / slovenia.info)

If you are fit and don’t mind a more technical walk (you have to hold a chain), you can keep climbing to reach the Upper Pericnik Waterfall. With only a 16-meter drop it’s less impressive. (photo: Iztok Medja / slovenia.info)

Pericnik Waterfall is also very famous for its winter beauty. When the temperature drops, water freeze and the waterfall is covered with icicles dropping from the rock. (photo: Ales Zdesar / slovenia.info)
