Slovenia is almost more magical in the winter than in the summer. The temperatures can range from a high of about 10 degrees Celsius to well below freezing. It may or may not snow at any time from late November to March. Be sure to pack a warm jacket, hat and gloves, and clothes you can layer and mix and match. A pair of warm, sturdy shoes is also a must.

Vintgar Gorge in the winter. The walk itself is almost out of this world in terms of its beauty. Vintgar Gorge is only a 10-minute drive from our Fine Stay Apartments.

Zelenci Nature Reserve wits its beautiful emerald green lake which, interestingly, despite the most freezing temperatures and harsh and cold winters in the Alpine area of northwestern Slovenia, the Zelenci lake never freezes. The Zelenci Nature Reserve is only half an hour drive from our apartments.

Lake Jasna is really a great place to spend a bit of time and enjoy incredible views on a winter day. It’s only half an hour drive from our Fine Stay Apartments.

Lake Bohinj is Slovenia’s largest lake. It lies in the Triglav National Park and looks even more picturesque in winter when it’s covered with a white blanket of snow. It’s about a 40-minute drive from our Fine Stay Apartments, perfect for a day trip.

There’s a nice trail going around Lake Zavrsnica (it takes about 15 minutes to go around the lake).

Velika Planina, is a lovely Alpine settlement of 63 traditional herdsmen’s huts located at an elevation between 1,500 and 1,666 metres is the place to be for winter and snow lovers. It is around a 50-minute drive from our place (+ cable car ride), great for a day trip!

Velika Planina is accessible by an exciting cable-car ride and then a 15-minute chairlift ride or a relatively easy half an hour walk on a gentle slope.

Kranjska Gora is a charming alpine village and the most famous ski resort in Slovenia situated on the tip of the Triglav National Parks. It is around a half an hour drive from our apartments.

Predjama Castle is the most remarkable and completely unconquerable castle built in the mouth of a cave in the 16th century. It’s a little more than an hour drive away from our Fine Stay Apartments, so you can easily make a day trip and see the castle and also the nearby Postojna Caves.
