Lake Bohinj

Lake Bohinj is Slovenia`s largest glacial lake and it’s about half an hour drive from Bled. It is considered as one of the most beautiful places in Slovenia. The Alps dominate the scenery and on a clear, sunny, calm day the water looks like a piece of glass reflecting everything so perfectly. If you like nature this is the place to visit. It’s possible to rent a boat and go around the lake. It’s also possible to swim in the summer months. The water is a little colder to swim in than Lake Bled but it is easier to find somewhere more secluded – there are plenty of shady beaches, basically you can enter the lake anywhere where you find a place. All places you could possibly stop have scenic views. There is also the Vogel cable car which is a must do for a magnificent view over the whole lake. And you can also visit the nearby Savica waterfall.

Compared to Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj has a more natural, laid back and less touristy feel, while Lake Bled is more compact, easy to walk around and more obviously beautiful with the castle at one end and the island with the church in the middle. Don’t choose between them, no visit to our area is complete without visiting both!

  1. What an incredible lake! Well worth a visit for a day. Should be top of must go attractions. The water is clear and refreshing and clean to swim. The hills and mountains that frame the lake are fantastic. You can hire a canoe and go for a paddle… just an excellent experience.
